RossRollers is a process I have developed, in collaboration with Christina Humble, to make quality and affordable rollers/brayers that can standup to the rigors of constant use by students and professionals alike.
I was inspired to undertake this project because of the yearly concern of graduating students being uncertain about how to afford continuing their printmaking practice without university access. These rollers can also be immensely helpful for print co-ops, non-profit shops, and underfunded programs.
The rubber is stable, can be modified for any durometer, there is no seam, and the color can be tinted. They clean up as well as any commercially made brayer. The handle and caddy are made from birch ply and are sealed with food grade mineral oil. Making cleanup of the handles just as easy as the rubber. I’ve printed relief, lithography, monoprint, and intaglio with no discernible differences from commercially available rollers!
